Jim Orr_Orr Taylor.png

Jim Orr began his legal career as an articling student and lawyer at Stikeman Elliott in the litigation department headed by John Sopinka until his appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada. Jim then joined Fasken & Calvin where he had the good fortune to work with many of the country’s top commercial litigators. In 1992, along with seven other Fasken partners, he started Kelly Affleck Greene, one of Canada’s first commercial litigation boutiques.

For the past fifteen years, Jim’s practice has focused on class actions. He founded Kim Orr (now Kim Spencer McPhee), a plaintiff’s class action firm. While most of his work has been on the plaintiff’s side, Jim has been retained by large Canadian and international corporations to defend both competition and securities class actions. He also maintains a commercial law practice for select clients.

Kyle Taylor_Orr Taylor.png

Kyle Taylor is a founder and managing partner of Orr Taylor. He started the firm to provide exceptional representation for both plaintiffs and defendants in complex business litigation and class actions. Kyle is a uniquely experienced and dynamic litigator, having successfully represented businesses and class members alike in class actions, business litigation, antitrust and competition matters, and international disputes in both Canada and the United States.

Kyle is currently lead or co-lead counsel in an alleged $12 billion class action involving Amazon’s pricing practices, $10 billion class action involving price fixing of Bread, $2.75 billion class action involving antitrust violations in the market for Generic Drugs, $1 billion class action involving antitrust violations in the market for DRAM, and $250 million class action involving price fixing of Canned Tuna. In addition to his work for the plaintiff class, Kyle represents businesses involved in class actions and commercial litigation. For example, his recent matters for businesses include representing an international technology company as a defendant in a proposed class action alleging price fixing of Resistors, representing one of the world’s largest retailers in a nation-wide challenge to Canada’s class action settlement and opt-out regime, and representing a Canadian technology company in a significant theft of trade secrets litigation. Kyle’s clients include businesses located in Canada, the United States, and overseas.

Kyle was previously a lawyer in the New York office of the leading global litigation firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan. At Quinn Emanuel, Kyle represented the plaintiffs in antitrust litigation against the major U.S. freight railroads alleging price fixing of fuel surcharges, as well as in class actions against large banks for alleged price fixing of financial products. He also represented the bankruptcy trustee for a former financial services institution in pre-trial and trial litigation against a major accounting firm. Kyle also successfully defended businesses involved in high-stakes litigation, including a leading healthcare data company against monopolization claims, a major toy company against monopolization claims, a major Italian bank against fraud claims, and a European investor against insider trading claims.

Before entering private practice, Kyle served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph L. Tauro, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.  Kyle maintains his bar admissions in Ontario and New York.
